What’s your sign?

Astrology and zodiac sign knowledge is all the rage right now. I have been seeing Zodiac sign jewelry and paraphernalia all over the web for quite some time now. Some of it pretty, some of it pretty gaudy. I thought I would take a moment to attach some of my favorite, timeless, zodiac themed jewelry for those who are looking for a gift for their ‘spiritual’ friend, or something for themselves! I know I definitely will be getting one of these pieces for myself!

Be comfy!

I am always one for reading Teen Vogue, but to be honest sometimes the advice they give girls seems a little far-fetched for the average teen. I am glad they try to encourage girls to be daring, but let’s be real, no one at my high school (at least) was wearing leopard print sneakers with a white tutu. More power to the ones that do, however!

In any event, I found a Teen Vogue article that I could really relate to and wanted to share. It’s about dressing comfortably—which is what I am all about…basically if it ain’t comfy, I ain’t wearing it. Being comfortable is the key to being confident. The two go hand-in-hand. If you are comfortable in what you are wearing, you feel good!

So, while the article I am attaching is brief in measure (and just talks about being comfy on Mondays basically…why not be comfy everyday, Teen Vogue?!), it inspired me to send you guys an important message: Wear what you want, being comfortable can be just as good, if not better, than dressing in something fashionable but awkward feeling (the old expression ‘beauty is pain’ comes to mind, but I have just never agreed with it anyway).

Really unique pieces that can make your outfit pop!

I am a huge fan of vintage/vintage inspired/bohemian jewelry (particularly necklaces). Recently I found some amazing pendants at a local store in downtown Portsmouth, NH for only 5 bucks a piece, and another vintage inspired necklace for $25! Needless to say I have had a lot of fun working them into my outfits lately. They are great statement necklaces without being so obvious; which is what I really love about them!

So, if you’re like me and you dig some unique vibes when it comes to your wardrobe, you’re in luck!

Since you can’t shop at the lovely boutiques I usually purchase my unique finds (unless you live near me of course), I have just discovered a great Etsy shop (sort of redundant since almost every Etsy shop is pretty great!) for vintage/bohemian inspired jewelry.

Here’s the link! Happy shopping!

It has to be said

So, I am going to say it! Not everyone knows how to wear a statement necklace right. I know they are trendy, fun, and bold, that’s why everyone has been rocking them lately. However, if you do not wear them correctly, they look, well…not so great.

My personal favorite statement necklace is a clear-crystal and silver one I purchased from Urban Outfitters this winter. It’s not too bold, because it is plain in color, but it is a statement. I like to pair this necklace with high-necked tanks, plain t-shirts, and basic dresses (I will pair it with anything really…I should probably get a different one to switch things up, but alas, I’m in love!)

So, if you are one of those people who just cannot get down how to wear your own statement necklace, CollegeFashion.net has provided their readers with an easy guide which I have attached below:

Seriously, it’s worth checking out!

Best of luck,

The highly anticipated end to the world’s seemingly longest sabbatical, my sincere apologies & other things you love!

I know it’s bad. It’s so bad that I am not going to make any excuses (cough, being an insanely busy college Freshman, cough). I’m sorry! I forgot about you blog, I neglected you, I straight up ignored you. Could you ever think of forgiving me? Maybe if I had some enticing news for you, perhaps? Oh, good I knew you’d take me back! Blog, you are too kind.

Oh, right, the “enticing news” I promised…

Well blog, since I treated you so poorly I am surprised you were not the latest inspiration for Taylor Swift’s new album,

I am going to commit to you a weekly update. That’s right, blog! You will get updated ONCE A WEEK! You will be filled with fashion, style, and complaints/happy comments regarding my life! I will give you the world, blog!

If you are wondering what happened between the blog & me, he took me back.

In all seriousness (wait–what–that love story wasn’t a real life reenactment of the blog & my reconciliation!?!?) I will in fact be updating once a week! High Voltage Style is back in business, and more stylish than ever!

New obsession

I am officially obsessed with fashion PR. I have always had a knack for organization, events and being around people, and this career puts all of those together! I used to be an avid Kell on Earth viewer, and for those of you who are unfamiliar with the Bravo! show, it followed Kelly Cutrone; an absolute PR superstar. I loved the show, but to be honest it scared the crap out of me. Watching how cut throat the fashion industry truly is can be a turn off. I have spent years debating on whether I wanted to pursue a career in fashion, and now I can safely say that I believe fashion PR is where I belong.

To be continued…!

be as French as you can be!…oui!

I don’t know about you guys, but Paris fashion week definitely inspired me to start putting my French foot forward! There was so much inspiration in the shows–I picked a few of my personal favorites. Obviously we can’t all dawn black lace lbd’s everyday or gold silken gowns, but hey…we can come close.

Adulthood isn’t cheap

Right now I am finding that being a poor college student does not have many perks. The main downside has to be not having the ability to frivolously spend all of my money on clothes. Really, it’s not frivolous spending though, because clothes make me happy and I get a lot out of retail therapy. I have to wonder: what’s worse…being broke and spending all of my cash on beautiful, cozy, luscious garments…or saving my money and being a stingy Scrooge ( I will undoubtedly end up looking like Scrooge too if I can’t indulge in my shopping!) Sigh—there seems to be no happy medium either. I can’t just buy one thing…no, no, when I online shop it’s intense. I fill those bottomless carts and bags to the top! I really should read The Confessions of a Shopaholic because I feel as though I would have a lot in common with the main character.

All for now,

Rock the Docs

ImageImage

Admittedly, I have had these beauties for about a year now and have only busted them out a few times. Mostly this is because I end up in searing pain and with blisters the size of a quarter. However, I try and try again to wear them because they are just TOO beautiful and, if we are being honest, I feel pretty bad-ass in them. If you have any advice on how to break these suckers in, please let me know! I have worn them probably a total of 6 times (and for long periods of time) and they are still giving me trouble, the little buggers!

How do you rock your docs? let me know!
